Hi all, I am going to Berlin for a few days (pleasure) in November and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to where to stay. It's with the girlfriend for her 21st so I don't really want to stay in a cheap nasty hostel, but at the same time I'm a student and don't want to break the bank. I'm looking for a safe, central and affordable hotel really. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm just back from Berlin. I got a great deal in the Park Inn on the internet- Alexandra Platz. 46 euro a night. Alexandra Platz is great cos you can get anywhere from there using the super public transport. The room was small but very clean and great view of the city.

3 nights isn't enough! There's loads to do all day & the nightlife is legendary.

Gotta second the Park Inn recommendation - stayed there with my gf back in February, although I didn't get a deal as good as that dolliemix!Great location for seeing the city.Alexanderplatz station is right beside the hotel, and if you're up for a walk its a nice stroll across the Spree and down Unter den Linden to the Brandenburg gate.Berlin is a great city with something for everyone, can't recommend it enough.

Practically nothing left of the wall to see!
I liked the holocaust memorial, the Reichstag, the tv tower on the east side.

Stay in propellar island- the coolest hotel ever! Its done by an artist and every room is different. I stayed in 2 different rooms, one like a forest and one like a prison cell. Approx 70 for a room but worth every cent!

Heres the link so you can see all the funky rooms....

Circus Hostel is supposed to be the best in Berlin and is the top rated on tripadvisor. Anyone I talked to who stayed there said it was excellent. I'd also reccomend Heart of Gold Hostel. Cheap enough and lovely place. The Park Inn did look nice though!

Berlin is excellent, i was there a few weeks ago and liked it so much i'm going back in December.

I recommend the Adina Hotel, Mitte. Near Alexanderplaz, it's an aparthotel and the apartments are hugh. Really nice place. It's usually about €150 a night on most hotel sites but 1800hotels always have it for about €67 a night.

Do the fat tire bike tour, it's a great way to see Berlin.

I stayed at the Melia Berlin about 2 years ago, and it was excellent. It was a really nice place (fairly new at the time), in a great location, and was quite cheap considering it's a 4 star.

It's obviously still going well as it's rated #6 out of 619 hotels in Berlin according to tripadvisor .

I stayed three nights and paid around €200 in total for two of us, and that was well worth it, especially seeing as eating/drinking is so cheap there. I booked it through some of the booking sites, like venere.com (can't remember, there are so many).

Enjoy, I really have to go back again myself!

Yeah, Park Inn is a nice hotel and good location.

I have also stayed in the Lux 11 apartment hotel. Right beside Alexander Platz as well and would be perfect for a weekend away with the missus.

It was about 150 Euro per night if I remember correctly...

i stayed in the Allegra (3*) in 2006 and it was ok for the price. nothing too fancy and a good breakfast. its centrally located for the Reinstag/ Brandenburg gate and is around the corner from Oranienburger (spelling!) strabe which has a lively nite life.
hrs.de is a good german site for booking.
its a lively city... was there for the World cup final and we went to see the Germany 3rd place celebrations in front of the brandenberg gate... amazing city!

another recommendation for the park inn on alexanderplatz, think it's mostly a business hotel so tends to have great deals available all the time at weekends.
there's a 'normal' bus that goes from outside the alexanderplatz station the '100' bus it goes by all the tourist spots, past museum island (the pergamon museum is amazing) and up unter den linden, by the brandenburg gate past the reichstag and then the victory column and to the zoological gardens, your day pass works on it and they're very regular buses so a great alternative to the more expensive tourist buses.
would move to berlin in a heartbeat great city lovely vibe to it.

    Are you out your mind??

There 1.3km of it and it's awesome

Second the recommendations to stay near Alexanderplatz; it is one of the central transport hubs in the city - convient for getting anywhere.
