130gr is standard fodder for this cal ,ammo is going to be hard to this year so buy what you can get in.SSTs ,ballistic tips or spot points, which ever one shoots best in your rifle
try the federal power points also in 130gr there cheap and also work very well.

Hi arrowloopboy, I use 150gr RWS KS for Sika as they are tough little beggers (the Sika) & I find them excellent. Usually dropped on the spot which is important in woodland. I have tried 130gr RWS T Mantel which is also an excellent round but I found that it caused more meat damage. Leisureworld in Kilkenny had a good stock a couple of weeks ago when I was down there. He is usually there every afternoon except Tuesday. He sells them for less than I paid for my last batch a couple of years ago. hope this helps.

No JFD, I do not notice much recoil at all. Probably concentrating too hard on the target & I rarely have to re-zero unless I am changing ammunition & so do not often fire a lot of shots in quick succession. Recoil may be more of an issue for target shooting but within reason I do not think it is for hunting. IMHO.

iv shot a lot of deer with the .270 using T mantel 130gr years ago i found them to be excellent bullets if not expensive then ,if i remember they were 36 pounds for 20.

i used the H mantel 150gr they were a hard bullet to hard for sika i thought,i used to ask clients to shoot through the shoulder blades more so than behind the shoulder.they were good that way as stags would drop to the shot with both shoulders gone .
they were not for hind culling as the animal is to light.

i dont think i have seen many sika stags shot behind the shoulder drop to the shot and stay down ,ie the bullet not hitting any thing other than ribs lungs heart.

110gr v max is not suitable for stags simple as that.
its ideal for some one that can place a shot and knows what there doing ,i would mostly use them on hinds for neck shooting.

kinda brings us back to the 130gr ballistic tip ,soft point and sst as a all rounder.

" True in most cases, but I have seen a R&L on Sika stags at about 55m with 100 g RWS T mantel. Both dropped on the spot."

RWS ammunition. Leisureworld in Kilkenny had a good stock a couple of weeks ago when I was down there. He is usually there every afternoon except Tuesday. He sells them for less than I paid for my last batch a couple of years ago. hope this helps.[/QUOTE]

I was in there yesterday & he is selling .270 RWS ammunition for €35 per box & might do better for a batch. He has RWS in stock for a lot of different calibres & any that are not kept in stock he will order in with next order. There is no problem getting the ammo, Transportation is where the trouble & expense is. I forgot to get his phone no. but I will get it next time I'm down there.

130gr work well in the blaser but I found the federal soft point do not expand well at all, the fed premium 130 balistic tip are better but better again are hornady 130 sst. I changed to norma 110 v max last season and found them brilliant, wandered a bit in very windy conditions but give great kills. Doubt they would be great for shoulder shooting stags though..
