i'm going over myself around the same time for 4 nights too and booked
Mount Pleasant Apartments worked out at €325 for the 4 nights for a two bedroom apartment. hotelformule1 is also very cheap but a bit of a dive. across the road from that you've the dolby hotel also cheap but vary basic. the mathew street festival is on sometime in August with loads of live bands around the streets i think thats on the last weekend of the month. you could also go to Anfield and do the Museum and Stadium Tour and see 5 European cups :) also you have the The Beatles Story visitor attraction http://beatlesstory.com/

You've also got the tour of Goodison which is a lot less commercial than the tour of Anfield.

The Albert Dock www.albertdock.com along with The Pier Head, Stanley Dock etc..,

    Liverpool One for shopping www.liverpool-one.com

Matthew Street for The Cavern (not the original one mind you) www.mathew.st A cabbie will bring you to all the Beatles stuff scattered around the streets of Liverpool.

Liverpool has some brilliant Museums www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk Not sure if the new one next to the Albert Dock is open yet. Some great gallaries too (Tate Modern etc..)

Liverpool architecture is amazing, it's a very historic city with big links to slavery. www.liverpoolarchitecture.com

Two great Catherdals www.liverpoolcathedral.org.uk and www.liverpoolmetrocathedral.org.uk (Paddys Wigwam)

The oldest china town in Europe.

Might be something on in www.liverpoolphil.com or www.accliverpool.com or one of the other live venues which are scattered all around the place, some great ones east of Hanover Street.

Aintree - but there probably isn't anything on.

Then there are some excellent bars, restaurants and some decent enough club nights. Albert Dock, Concert Sq, etc..,

re: Hotels - Jurys (Kings Dock) or either of the Premier Travel inns (city centre or Albert Dock) offer the best value IMO.

Mathew street festival kicks off on August 30th for 2 Days. Because of this, the hotels have lashed up the prices.

Forgot to mention. The tactical planning centre for WWII is hidden under the streets of liverpool. I found it facinating.

Anyone in Liverpool, check it out.

I have stayed in Jurys Inn on 3 occasions. For value and location it cannot be beaten.
