I was hoping somebody might have done this before or might be able to advise. Basically were in South Africa at the moment and got engaged yesterday. Were going to be in Cape Town next week and were thinking of buying the Diamond there and then getting it set when we get back to Ireland. I met a guy who was looking at engagement rings there last week and he said full carat diamonds can be had for a 1000euro!?

I got my fiance's ring made in Joburg, and saved a bit compared to Cape Town, which of course was a saving of quite a bit when compared to Ireland.

Couldn't tell you what the individual price of the diamond was but its worth a call.

The chap I used is G&M Manufacturing Jewellers, based in Meyerton call +27 16 362 3966.

Edit - if you want places in Cape Town I can give my aul lad a buss and ask him for recommendations.

Yeah Cape Town recommendations would be great, was already in Jo'Burg and won't be going back that way. Probably just gonna get the diamond as a friend of ours does jewellery design back home and has already done engagement rings for a few friends.
