why was grant application so late this year? Girl in Galway county council told me that the chances of knowing if i get the grant before i start college is very small. So if i go to college before I know and have to pay the E1,500 registration fee and then get refused the grant I will have to leave college.

The reason for this is that I dont have proof of address for 4 months. I got everyone I was living with at that time to sign a letter saying I was living with them full time for the period and I also went to a solicitor and signed an affidavit. I dont know if this will do so Im left wondering what options I have?

I heard that the grant applications were late as the councils, VECs etc were waiting on confirmation of the grant rates from the government.

Speak to the college and ask for a deferral of the €1,500 until you get the grant approval. There shouldnt be a problem.

I need to get accepted to grant to apply for a grant advance loan equal to first grant payment in order to move to maynooth and get set up.

I put my application into Galway county council on wednesday and I would say that I am probably one of the first to do so.

I would really like to find out how many applications they have received to date.

Any ideas on ways to speed up a decision before college starts?

I'd ring them every single day until I heard they posted the approval...

that could have the opposite effect, my application could get 'lost'.
