SIMI Website

I'm sure most of you in the trade will have heard by now that the SIMI plan to launch their own used car website. I can see the positive points in this, e.g. SIMI approved 'safe' vehicles only which is not a bad idea in fairness!

This new site will only stock 'exclusive' vehicles so therefore any serious buyer, not bargain basement material, should look here only!

Me, I can't see it working.

Firstly, it needs to be marketed strongly so the ordinary Joe is aware of its existance. This will take time and money!

Secondly, there is only a limited amount of choice so won't that bring the public back to the main sites? I.e: carzone / CBG?

Once upon a short time ago we would look at a car and take it's price. Similarly, we would go to Superquinn and fill the trolley for €300! Today we are scanning all sites for the best deal and shopping in Lidl and Aldi (for €100 a trolley full!)

Will you 'shop' on the SIMI site when it's launched because it's 'safe' and gives you 'peace of mind' or will you continue to search all sites for the best deal?

    ...what, they're doing this.........AGAIN?

BTDT, SIMI have, iirc.......waste of time.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I scrolled through and picked the 06 Megane (fourth from the top).
I clicked it to make the picture bigger on the LHS.
I couldn't figure out where to click next when I noticed the little "more info" link at the bottom of the description.
    I clicked for more info.
The website took me to an error page where it told me "this car does not exist in the system".

This has happened with every car I've tried.
The Find My Car tab brings you to a page where you can't pick any cars.

The website itself is broken (cars not in the system, WTF?). i.e. This website isn't live yet...

...but for some reason it's live and publicly available for people to try out and lose faith in.

If I were a punter, I would immediately presume that those exclusive vehicles are there only because a fee was paid to feature them.
I'm not sure how much weight I'd put in the fact that they're there.

Based on success of their "Used Cars are Great Value" news campaign, I have little faith that the SIMI will be able to do something that challenges the likes of Carzone.

SIMI means nothing to me tbh, its there to represent the dealers circle, and not the consumer.

Yep - can't see it working either myself! SIMI do not seem to have done very much for the motor trade over the last twelve months (if ever!) but I do hear that dealers are supporting this! Does it appeal to their ego or what?
