You sure it is the EGR and not the wastegate controller?

Question number 2 is, Is it a vacuum supply (constant vacuum)?

    Q3 Is there any problems/symptoms?

According to autodata 2004 it is the EGR controler solenoid it is the one nearest the driver side the wastegate solenoid is nearer to the pass side.

it loops between the 2 and goes down towards the bottom of the engine/gear linkage i just cant find anywhere for it to connect.

looks like i will have to vist a skoda dealer and pretend i want to buy one :(

surely someone on here has a 1.9tdi octavia

The sister has but it is in Dublin :P

Some vacuum valves have a vent to atmosphere. That could be it.
