Firstly go to the installer menu on your sky+ box, press services 4 0 1 select and choose RF outputs and put RF2 power on and take note of the RF channel its on (usually 68) and save.

Next take a feed from the RF2 output on the back of the sky+ box into your attic or wherever the 7 cable tails feeding the sockets are, buy an 8 way distribution unit with integrated bypass
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SLx8B-8-Way-Signal-Booster-Amplifier-digital-bypass_W0QQitemZ270438179938QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ConElec_TVAerials_RL?hash=item3ef75f2462&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

and plug the feed into the UHF in socket on the distribution unit and then plug in each of the cable tails into the outputs and you're more or less ready to go, set up each tv by plugging a male to male coax lead from the sockets to the RF in on the back of the TV and tune them into the RF number your sky box was on. you can put an eye on each of the TV points if you like, its a very handy set up, although naturally the picture quality won't be as good on the other TV's as the main TV if its through a scart.

Don't forget you will only be able to watch what is on the main tv.

Yep, same thing, just a different manufacturer, you'll be able to work 8 different eyes off it if you need that many! Don't forget to turn the RF2 power on, you'll not be able to switch channels if its not. Let me know how you get on.

Its services, then option 4 and 0,1 Select in quick succession...it brings up the (not so) secret installers menu

    Semi Related Questions

I'm thinking of upgrading to SKY HD. I already have Sky Plus in 2 rooms and have 2 multi room subs, i.e. 3 subs in total.

If I upgrade I'll have a 'spare' Sky Plus box. Can I use this in the room I have my second multi-room sub (the 3rd sub if you will)? There is only one cable coming into this room as opposed to the 2 in the other 2 rooms (I have a quad LNB but the other 3 cables are run to other rooms in the house which have UK FTV cards in old boxes).

If I can use it with the single input cable what features can I still use?

    Any insights on this?

I've tried the search function but found nothing relevant.

Bump, really appreciate an answer on this before I decide what to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,140 ✭✭✭John mac

with a single cable you will only be able to record what you are watching.

    thats the only difference.
    (1 cable = 1 tuner.)

if you have + in 2 rooms and 3 other boxes then you will already have an octo lnb ) ie 7 connections.

    am i reading that correctly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 506 ✭✭✭PoolDude

Yep; I have 2 + boxes, 1 multiroom single cable and 3 other rooms with sky boxes using FTA cards consuming all 8 cables from the Octo LNB.

So I can record on the station I'm watching if I replace it in the multiroom single cable room - does that also extend to recording while the tv is not in use and live pause, forward, rewind, etc on the station being viewed?

    Thx.

i'm not 100% sure but i would think that would be the case alright,

    why not test it out?

It should work as a standard sky unit without the plus features

Yes, I can confirm this. I swapped out our multiroom box (in our kids playroom) for a Sky+ box a friend gave me. Called up Sky to marry the card to the box and enable Sky+ services on that card & box combination.
While I was setting it all up I had just one cable connected and it worked fine (record, pause etc).

Search in the forum here for solutions that *might* allow you to run two Sky signals down a single co-ax connection. They work in some cases.
