When is noise pollution law coming in?

I am at the end of my tether thanks to a teenage drummer and his band (with full amps) practising in his garage almost every day for the past 3 years. We, and other neighbours, have asked them to sound-proof the garage or practise in a proper rehearsal room but they've basically told us to "f off". It's so loud my elderly parents are considering moving, it's causing continual headaches and stress, and we can't even hear the TV in our house (through double-glazed windows). I'm ready to snap!

What happened to the law on this and is there anything I can do in the meantime (Besides murder - I don't fancy spending my life in the Joy!)?

Contact your local authority about it.

We have, but because it's a private estate we'd have to take a case through the courts ourselves. That sounds drawn-out and expensive. There was talk of some new law where the gardai can give on the spot fines and put a stop to it.

No chance of that happening soon, plus the Gardaí don't want to have anything to do with it as it's a civil matter.

I'm sure I've heard of local authorities dealing with noise issues in private estates.

The process for you to take action is not drawn out or expensive. If it as bad as you describe I seriously cant understand why you have waited three years to act.

Anyway have a read of this for further info:

A call to a local solicitor to get a letter sent too might be enough to have the noise ceased.

Thanks a mill :-) The reason is that all of the families here have been living as neighbours for 30 to 40 years and no-one wants to rock the boat. Getting a court order against the neighbours' kids won't go down well. I've had enough though.

I'd say that your inconsiderate, drumming neighbours have already "rocked the boat"?

Is this not the reason that ASBO's where brought in here? I know none have been issued yet but someone posted the reasons for an ASBO recently and the OP's case sounds like a prime example.
