    Interesing post over at joinfreesat.co.uk
ITV have today announced the planned launch of ITV1 HD, which is said to be in place by the end of the year when Freeview switch-over begins. The channel has been confirmed as also being available on the Freesat platform, though no agreement is yet in place for Sky or Virgin Media.

    Great news IMO!:)

ITVHD, at the moment hardly ever has anything. This, at least should give every SD programme better quality due to to proper professional upscaling!

Yes, this would be very welcome. ITV's SD picture quality can be ropey sometimes to say the least. When you watch programmes with a lot of movement (such as football in SD) it really shows it up.

SD upscaling should dramatically improve this. Apparantly this is definitely the case with Channel 4 HD (Unfortunately without a UK Sky sub we currently can't see it here.) :(

FTV card clears Channel 4HD, it's what I've been using for ages and IMHO is one of the best HD channels out there (definitely the one I watch the most and I have the Sky HD basic pack of ~12 HD channels).

Ah, Indeed it does with a FTV card.

The sooner Ch4 HD goes FTA and appears of Freesat the better. :)

I don't like the way it's called ITV1 HD. That means that only ITV1 programmes will be in HD, and there is never anything good on ITV1. If only they would have an ITV HD channel where they could show a few American Shows from ITV2 too.

Well ITV2 has The Office episodes on at 2:30 in the morning and it has Supernatural which I hear is good.

The Office is shown in the middle of the night so useless for me.

Ah but if they had an ITV HD channel they could throw some HD episodes of the Office on the channel at a reasonable channel.

They have such little bought-in stuff in HD that an ITV HD service would probably leave them with little more than what they show at the moment anyway. ITV 1 HD is a good start for now, maybe they intend having all their channels in HD when space and money factors are sorted out?

Well, there have been some changes made to BBC HD recently which has got some people thinking that the two standard definition BBC ONE regions that share a transponder with BBC HD will be going soon to make way for ITV 1 HD on the same transponder. The ITV HD channel at the moment is showing upscaled ITV 1 Granada as a test. Keep your eyes open on the BBC HD transponder and see what happens... Full time upscaled ITV 1 coming soon it seems... If only they could find rom for FIVER and FIVE USA too...
