New build - multi room speakers

i am building a new house at the moment and the 1st fix electrical work is currently ongoing. i have spent lots of time looking into insulation, heating systems, hrv systems etc but have neglected the important stuff till now! :)

I would like a system that can play music in various different zones around the house. i was thinking of putting speakers into the ceiling of each of the rooms and running the cables back to a central location.

i have lots of questions about this setup but here's a few for starters... ;)

    1) what cables would i need to run to each speaker? standard speaker cable or someone suggested cat5?
    2) how would i switch the music on in each room? i looked at the sonos demo and it looks excellent in cases where there are no wires in the house. however, i was hoping that i could come up with a cheaper alternative by wiring correctly now
    3) i want to be able to listen to both radio and my own music collection. would i need a computer at the central location to control this?
    4) is it possible to get a remote controller that will link in to the system similar to the sonos system?
