Normal S video Connection on a laptop?

    Hi. I need to prepare to hook up a sat. receiver to a laptop - so that tv can be viewed on the laptop. Have not laid my eyes on the laptop yet but its not the most recent so would it be safe to assume that it has an S Video (FEMALE) connection on it?

    Need to connect RCA Component (Red/yellow/green) to the laptops S video connection.

    Also, have been coming across converters that have either 4 or 7 pin S video - what is normal or standard for laptops??

    I know it would be best to check it at first hand but i want to have a go at setting it up immediately - so will take the chance for the sake of a couple of quid - just want to give myself every chance of ordering up the right converter.

    I think you have a problem !
    The S Video connection is almost certainly a video out only connection.
    I have yet to see a S Video in on a laptop.
    The function of the S Video out is usually to export the the screen to a projector of external monitor.

    You need a TV tuner card to get video in to most laptops. They are available in various USB or Expresscard etc formats.

    Thanks for the clarification guys. One other quick question. The laptops with the newer connections ie. DVI & HDMI. Do those only work in one direction also....ie. they are for output only - no input possible?
