I needed to generate a sequential list of numbers with text before and after, to enter into a PHPBB forum spam filter. I dreaded the idea of typing it all in and I'm not sure enough of myself to generate the list in the Windows console.

    I stumbled across this online:

    http://mytexttools.com/Generate-List-of-Numbers.html

The main suite of tools is here:

This is what I ended up with, just one click of a mouse..

Perfection, the website owner needs a gold medal. I had awful trouble pinning down software to do the above.

Just a heads up for boards members that might need a very quirky set of random and sequential text generators.

    C:\>for /l %i in (1,1,100) do echo *%i@gmail.com >>list.txt
No need for any fancy tools for that particular problem.

The quickest and easiest way is probably just to use MS Excel and then merge two columns together after you create the sequential numbers.

Incidentally (maybe it's covering you for a temporary spam glut but) banning these email signups may not be good for your site. If you prevented the very first *1@gmail.com (* meaning wildcard right?) then you would be preventing thousands of registered boards.ie users from signing up. Some may be spammers, but there are a great deal of legitimate users with that email addy.

Cheers Alun. After the fact I had stumbled across this page: http://www.odonnol.com/NumListGen.htm, but your solution is more compact and specific!

Gordon, nearly all the recent sign up attempts, to a fully updated vanilla phpbb board have been gmail accounts with a double digit numeric ending. I've choked off the main culprits like internetserviceteam etc, but the gmail numeric trend is quite recent, for myself anyway.

Aye, I thought that Amalgam, just keep in mind the fact that (after the storm is over) such mail addresses could be genuine. Even with *99@gmail.com there are legitimately posting accounts on boards.

Heh. Well.. I removed the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0. A lot of people would be offered their first choice, by Google, with a 1 or 2 or 3 appended, I let up on that.

Since adding the above list, the sign ups seem to be human, with very extended Gmail emails, still junk though, so.. something has forced that, I hope it is me. :)

xxxxxxxx.xxxxx.xxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com etc etc.. totally random, whereas previously, it was a single word with a double digit numeric ending. All gmail again.
