My Dad cancelled his Sky subscription 2 years ago. He now wants Sky+.

Will he be treated as a new customer and avail of any offers they have? He's afraid to ask in case they say no.

Use your mother's name just in case.

Thanks for that. The surname name on her bank account will be the same. Will it still work?

Put an 'a' at the end of your house number, it will then go on Sky's system as a new property, hence a new install, so you will qualify for whatever offers they currently have for free equipment/install. If you want, take your old dish down so you will get a new dish and new cabling when it is installed. Or, if you get your mother to use her maiden name instead of her married name that might also work, but the installation is tired to the address, not the person so amending the address with 'a' or 'b' after the house number might be enough, but just incase they say that they have a similar name and address on their system, a different surname would help you get past that.

If it helps - I cancelled Sky recently and was told by Sky's cancellation dept not to bother coming back looking for new customer offers for 12 months from the date of my cancellation, as I would not be eligible for any until the passage of that amount of time. I hung up firmly with the impression that they'd welcome me with open arms if I waited for one year to go back.

In any event, you could say that you've been with one of their competitors in the interim and ask what they would offer you to persuade you to dump their competitor and make the move back to Sky. If they're interested in your custom then that in itself ought to be sufficient incentive for them to woo you.

It can't just be tied to the address. What if I sold my house and the new owners wanted to sign up? You think they'll turn them away? Hell no.

I just had Sky installed on Wednesday...I had Sky at the same address, but cancelled over a year ago. I told them I had, and they signed me up as a new subscriber anyway!

I cancelled sky two years ago and have just subscribed again and used exactly the same details and got any new customers offers.

Of course they wouldn't turn them away, they're not stupid. I didn't even say they would turn them away anyway, what I said was that they would not benefit from new subscriber offers, so they may not get a free STB as the dish and cabling has already been installed according to Sky's system. This of course was a while ago that this was reported so they might have changed their mood since then and will take anyone on... aren't they trying to pass the 10mil subscriber mark by the end of this year?
