higher education grant application - documentary evidence of income question

    I have applied for the higher education grant as I will be attending university as a mature student this september.

    you need to supply documentary evidence of your income for the year 2008.

    I've been on the dole since July 2008, so they need evidence of my income for the six months from Jan 08 to Jun 08.

    My problem is I do not have any paperwork to show what my income was, as I only worked occasionally and it was cash in hand type jobs and if i was stuck my brother was lending me a few euros here and there.

    how does one go about documenting income from casual labour like that or hand outs from friends?

    You should still be able to get a P21 from the tax office which will detail your social welfare payments for the entire year and will also show that you received no other income.

    I've asked Revenue for a p21 for 2008 but they said they can't supply one because i didn't pay any tax in that year, and they gave me a note on headed paper stating that.
