...what do people think about this? Bad idea? Do-able with extra precautions? Not really a big deal?

If you want to do have a good race and/or a good time, forget it. Your body won't let you work hard enough.

If you just want to drag yourself through the race to finish, well, that's possible. The question is, why on earth would you want to do that?

And if it's a bad cold, don't even think about it. You could do some real damage to yourself.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. That's kind of along the lines of what I was thinking myself but I wasn't sure whether I was being overdramatic. It's not a bad cold at all, but I'm new to this and obviously don't want to hurt myself in any way.

However, there's also the (dumb-a$$) side of me that thinks back to when I used to swim competitively and practiced and raced with colds a several times a year and thinks, "eh, it's just a cold, no big deal".

Actually it really depends on the cold and where it is :)

I'd say you know yourself if you can do it or not, If you dread the though ouf getting out of bed then you wont be able to do it, if you feel tired and would take a few days off training then you shouldnt do it.
If its a light cold that you would have trained with then you maybe ok but prob wont perform well.

Hi I did this at the start of May and the Cold thus developed into a chest infection...

I rationalised that the cold was just sniffles above the neck etc... then the event was positively winter like and I pushed hard on the day.

So, if you are just doing the sprint to finish it and feel up to it then cool (with extra precautions) but I'd recommend backing off if you have another goal or more important goal beyond the Sprint
