Got a quick request for you petrolheads -

Looking to get a new car in the next couple of months, basically i do a lot of city driving and a good bit of motorway cruising. I want a nice biig comfy car and once it's from this century I'm not fussy how old really as they make up for the time gap being more advanced back then. I've seen 2 or 3 older S40's and S60's sub-3k, but high mileage - would these be any good?

    Eg:

    or something smaller:

Only thing wrong with the S40 is I'd like cruise control (like, really want it badly) for the motorway. I was looking at Lagunas around the same year for ~2k as well, how do they hold up, I've heard bad things?

    Basically my questions -

    1. What can I get that's big-car but smallish engine for such a car (1.6/2.0max) and how do these sort of cars, like the volvos, hold up with 125k miles on them?

    2. Also, what do ye think of a smaller car the size of the laguna but without the bad press?

    3. Bear in mind I'm trading in a '96 corsa so ANYTHING is a step up. Any ideas how much I'd get for that as a trade in?

Edit 4. If my insurance (just about 21, full clean lic 1yr, no pts, 1.5yrsNCB) is 1200 on a 1.2, what will a 1.6/.1.8/2.0 cost me

    Suggestions?

A laguna is just as big as an S40, both not great really, I wouldn't touch a petrol Laguna in a fit. Honda Accord is a fine bus, don't give trouble, comfy and nice overall.

You'd get f all for your Corsa, better off going with cash and insist on minimum 15% off the windscreen price, put the Corsa on donedeal.ie or in the adverts here.

I drive a Laguna 1.9tdi supersport. I wouldn't swap it for the world. Have it almost a year now and not a problem with it yet (touch wood). Its got all the extra's and its a very comfy car as well with the semi leather seats. I would recommend it to anyone.
