A newbie's questions about DCU

I'm going to be doing a postgrad in DCU from September, and I have a few questions I'm hoping some seasoned DCU students will be able to answer...

Are there many societies/ clubs that aren't sport or games related (eg humanities/ arts societies)?

Is there any place decent to eat...and more importantly somewhere with good coffee on campus?

I did my undergrad in UCD, and the admin there is chaotic. Is DCU organised, or should I expect to spend my time chasing down silly mistakes in registration etc?

Thanks for any advice;). I'm really looking forward to going back to college now!

    Fire away

Yup loads. Everything from politics to films (both the best sort of societies imo). List is here.

Places to eat? Yes. Decent? Meh...not really. My advice would to be to head up to Matt Weldons at the top of the avenue. In my opinion, it's the real dcu student bar. They give good portions of food and a pint for around a tenner. Starbucks coffee all over in paper cups. It's pretty good but not a great choice. Insomnia in the Spar shop also.

The registry will drive you mad. Big coffee drinkers but there is never more than 2 working at the stations. Big delays and expect to pay big for anything you ever want them to do.[/quote]

    Cya there

Thanks for the list! Couldn't find it myself on the website...hence my likelihood of being ostracised from any computing-orientated society. Looks like there is a wide range to chose from (although I'm with you on the politics and film ones).

I don't like Starbucks...but guess students have to make sacrifices! Always good to know where the local source of pints is too...
