Is there a setting to record a route I take without me having to click on points along the way? I.e. I press start when I take off and press stop when I stop and all the data is recorded. i.e. distance elevation also a route for future reference? I have been looking at the manual but am confusing myself more.

    Thanks in advance

yes, press start and stop and everything in between is recorded, the data which you can use in Garmin training centre to create routes or analyse to death in programs such as sportstracks.

Pretty sure you turn it on -- start excercising and then stop it. It should be recording all the data for a specified period of time.

If it's anything like the 405, you have to have GPS turned on beforehand. Otherwise, it'll only record duration and heart rate.

I know my 305 can struggle initially to get satellite reception so you would simply be recording time and not distance or pace until it registers on the sat network.
Actually, does anyone know a way of resetting the starting point through Garmin Connect to begin at the true start of the run when this happens??? (Sorry for hijacking thread with my question OP!)

If you want to split your training run into discrete chunks you can hit the lap button.

You can Export the TCX file from Garmin Connect, edit the XML file using your favourite text editor, and add in additional trackpoints, and re-import the file. But to be honest, it would be a lot of work. Next time just wait until you have satellite coverage. ;)
