    Hi there

    I am deciding on whether to do F5 and F7 with Griffith College Dublin. In this regard, I would appreciate any comments / experiences that people may have in relation to the following lecturers:
    • Jim Daly for Performance Management;
    • Margaret Fitzsimons for Financial Reporting.
    Many Thanks

    If it's the same Jim Daly who does Management Accounting for the ICAI (CAP2) then I say avoid like the plague. My experiences with him consisted of him simply reading his notes in the class and providing absolutely no help/understanding whatsoever regarding the topics we covered (I felt i had to teach myself the subject).

    Although, this might not actually be the same man, and the subject you're doing is different.

    I had Jim Daly for 1.2 and he was brilliant. As he said himself, he goes through the material in the book and simpflies it down. I was exempt from F5 so I didnt have him for that. F5 is the follow on from 1.2. Really couldn't praise him highly enough.

    I did F5 last year (and passed thank god!) with Jim Daly and I think your impression of him will depend on how good you are in that particular subject. I noticed that some "geniuses" in my class were delighted with his method and the rest just scratched their heads a lot. I did a bit of both to be honest as I had a good enough knowledge of part of the syllabus from doing IATI. I think he covered some of the new stuff quite well but some of the new chapters made no sense in his class until I sat down with the book and - as one of the previous posters said - "taught myself". If he says he simplifies whats in the book - well I was more interested in understanding it as the questions in F5 don't come in simplified terms. I think he can forget about the world and get into his own "mode" and at times rant on without realising he has a classroom full of students who lost track of him half an hour beforehand! But you just might be the "genius" type and enjoy the trip! :-)

    Jim is one of the best teachers I had so far. I passed 78% in June 08. I can definitely recommend him. cheers.

    Rubbish comment. I had Jim for management accounting for ACA and thought he was brilliant. Maybe you need to choose another career if you find him so difficult to understand.

    I am really surprised by this. When I had Jim Daly as a Lecturer I found him easy to understand and he explained the topics clearly, simply and thoroughly imo.

    Attended Jim Daly's F5 classes for Jun09 sitting, found him excellent, approachable, relaxed and helpful, scored 80%. Hope other lecturers can outline their subjects in as straight-forward a manner as he did. Can't identify with the above criticisms, don't think they're fair

    Its a long time since Jim Daly taught me, qualified ACCA back in 2000, he is a fantastic lecturer and I would definately recommend him!

    Would have to agree, Jim was very straightforward and to the point for ACA in 2008.

    You can seek recommendations on individuals for areas such as this because there are a number of critea in which will determine whether or not a student will or will not benefit from the lecture.

    While I understand that the standard of lecturing is important am sure their heads of department have covered the particulars.

    Therefore I would recommend that it is the student who needs to apply the correct amount to the subject to get the most from it.
