****, Pitalua's power for me was always a concern when I made my pick and the end result is the reason why(the guy can really bang).

Reyes had been winning the fight up to the point, but it's not gonna count for anything when all is said and done.

For anyone who saw the fight was it actually a KO of the year candidate?

Pitalua is well past it, but they say the last thing to go is a fighters punch(in truth in depends on the fighter), and Pitalua still has power by the bucket loads.

Well done Fidan, but this isn't over ;)

Unless you are of the view he was fighting tomato cans for several years i don't see how you can say he is well past it. True, a boxers power is the last thing to go but he couldn't count on that to win every fight if he is well past it. His only loss in 8 years was to Valero. Valero would have beaten a younger Pitalua, but the fight probably would have lasted longer.

Before this win, the only genuine threat he faced in that time period(outside Valero) was the chinny(but talented) Santa Cruz. Cruz was winning the fight, but Pitalua made his power show in that fight.

I'm not going to say he was fighting tomato cans, because I'm not going to call any fighter a tomato can but he was facing opposition that was a long way off World level and in the 3 years leading up to the Santa Cruz fight the journeymen he fought were of a very low level.

Yet, If he was well and truly past, Santa Cruz and Reyes should have been able to negate his power by outboxing him and not get caught like they did. You must have thought Reyes had the ability to beat him despite Pitalua's power.
Either Reyes was suffering due to his recent losses or Pitalua still has something in the tank. I think it's the latter because there are many cases of shot fighters who still have power in their fists but due to them being past it they are not able to rely on it to see them through against semi-decent fighters - which clearly Reyes and Santa Cruz are.

There's a difference between shot and well past it, Pitalua isn't shot imo but he is 'well past it'. The guy has devastating power and of course still has the ability to land big shots occasionally, but it doesn't mean he hasn't slipped a lot.

The Reyes win is nearly more impressive in a way, Santa Cruz is a better fighter than Reyes but has quite a dodgy chin. Reyes is teak tough and Pitalua still starched him in spectacular fashion, it really was a very impressive ko.

However I don't see him fairing too well against any top 10 guy(except maybe Vasquez), but he is still a threat to anyone with his power.
