    Hi all

I have an appointment in september, to get 4 of my back wisdom teeth removed. I have healthcare with Quinn and they said they would cover
pretty much the lot but the consultant said i've to pay €450 on the day as well as the €150 consultation and xray that i've already paid, is this a normal enough price?

Also he will not be putting me to sleep, he will be injecting me with stuff
and i will be out of it but awake  anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks

    Patrick

Sounds about right for pricing. Not sure how insurance works, tbh, but think that insurance companies only like to contribute to wisdom tooth surgery that happens in a hospital setting (nonsense, really because it costs them more, but that is another thread).

Sounds like you will be having conscious sedation. Enjoy. Funtimes (not being sarcastic).

i've had the top two out (at different times) and was awake for both, they just injected the area around them to numb them and pulled them out with pliers and some brute foce.

i wouldn't help thinking that despite the pain relief dentistry hadn't changed much since the dark ages. :)

one of them was a woman dentist too and she had to sit on top of me straddling me to get the leverage to pull it out. very odd.

didn't really hurt though and was only a little pain afterwards.

bottom wisdom teeth can be more complicated though, my missus had to get one of them cut out (with 4 stiches) as it had a nerve growing through the root and they couldn't just pull it.

sorry, i'm probably not helping if you have a phobia. :)

Thanks for the quick reply just to mention its actually in a hospital that i'm having it done, so with the health insurance contribution is the the extra €450, a normal enough charge? Funtimes :) i take you mean i'll be out of my banana :D

Again, I'm not entirely sure, but you are perfectly entitled to ask what you are paying for and what the insurance is covering, without any offence being caused. It seems about right, but I don't know a huge amount about how all that works.

And yes, you will be out of your banana. Well put.
