General Redundancy packages in Ireland

    Hi

    I am looking at facing redundancy with a very bad package. my company has previous paid other people 5 wks per year. do you know if legally i would have a leg to stand on?? also i would be gratefull to know what other companies have paid out in redundancy just so i can get an idea

    Statutory redundancy is two weeks pay per year of service.

    Your union might be able to advice you, if not, i think the citizens info bureau have leaflets on it.

    Do you have evidence taht they paid out 5 weeks previously and when was it. Is there any difference between your redundancy and others i.e voluntary or complulsory. How is the company financially? is it profitabel. Also are they making your position redundant?

    Irrespective of these, a company only has to pay statutory. Anything further is always at the discretion of the company. There's no precedent set. And if the union referred to a higher previous redundancy, the simple answer is, "It's all the company can afford at present".
