Is Belfast the capital of Northern Ireland?

Hey, (Sorry if this seems like a STUPID question)

I always thought Belfast was the capital of N.I., but two of my friends were giving me some stick when they both said it was the whole county of Antrim. Are they right?, most sources I've looked at say it's Belfast (even though it's just a city)

I wasn't sure where to put this thread (sorry if it's in the wrong place)
& sorry(again) if this gets on people's nerves, I hear it can be a touchy subject.
    Anyway, I'd appreciate any info
    Thanks
    ...

No, it's Irelands 2nd city. Northern Ireland doesn't have a capital. The capital of the UK is London.

Its got bickering politicians, a big wheel, its riddled with traffic wardens and an international airport named after the city thats 15 miles away in another town (so its aspirational at least) - it must be the big smoke 'cos no right thinking populous would tolerate such daftness without the title of capital as compensation.

No, Belfast is hardly the capital considering N Ireland isn't even a country. Legally it is a subdivision of the United Kingdom. No anthem, no flag etc....

In short no. Its regarded as Ireland second city by many

Reckon Belfast is Northern Ireland capital and Cork is The Republic of Ireland's second city.

Northern Ireland is a constituent country of the United Kingdom, as is England, Scotland and Wales.

Belfast may be considered the island of Ireland's second city, but it cannot be considered Ireland*'s second city.

Four constituent countries make up the UK, and each have a capital:
    Capital of England: London.
    Capital of Northern Ireland: Belfast.
    Capital of Scotland: Edinburgh.
    Capital of Wales: Cardiff.

    * - Ireland being the name of the state.

Whatever way the debate about ni goes, it certainly is not the entire county of Antrim!

I've always regarded Belfast as the capital city of Northern Ireland, especially as all the province's most important business goes on there. <SNIP>
