Downloading DLC 5 times

Just said id post this up as a reminder as i had forgotten about it too, but you can download DLC up to 5 times. So you can actually download it on to 5 ps3's.

This works with games like siren but also battlefield and COD map packs. Since they are expensive at 9.99 each. Killzone maps aswell.

You will need 4 mates you really trust as you have to swap account info with them. But basically if all of you chip in, one buys it then everyone logs in as the account holder and downloads it again, installs it ye can all have the DLC for 1/5th of the price.

But be carefull once someone has your account info they can download anything so make sure you trust them.

if i download a COD map pack on my brothers PS3 does he have to be logged in as my account to use them? or once its downloaded he can log in as himself and use the maps?

Yea once its installed onto the PS3 it will work with any account (doesnt work with all games so make sure it says can be downloaded up to 5 times in the t&c).

If you consider the COD5 map packs the 3rd one is out today i think, so if you got all 3 thats 30 euro worth of DLC if 5 of you download it, it would cost 150 euro but if ye come together it will end up costing 6 euro each for all 3 map packs.

Yeah, once downloaded, he can log in as himself.

I think as long as your account is still on his PS3, he can use it.

I got Wipeout HD on my brother's PS3, removed my account and it wirked fine. Unless something has changed on the firmware to restrict that.

That's a good point actually coz I delete downloads regularly. My hard drive seems to fill up in no time. Maybe it's time to invest in a bigger one.

Just to be clear, you don't get 5 'downloads', you can have the DLC on 5 PS3 systems. You can download DLC from the PSN as many times as you like. Even if something is taken down from the PSN store, but you downloaded it when it was available, just go to your download list and you can redownload it from there. If your PS3 ever breaks and has to be scrappd, just make sure you deactivate your PSN account on the PS3 in Account Management before you get rid of it. Then you can activate the account on another PS3 and redownload all your DLC. :)

Spot on Goth. However, the problem lies where your friends PS3 goes on the blink and you can't deactivate the account because the masheen won't turn on.

Now to clear up a common misconception. Sony don't allow this purely so you can give free games/content to your mates. in fact, they DON'T want this.

The theory behind the 5 activation limit is two fold.
    1. If your PS3 breaks, you can download all your kit to your new PS3 without having to purchase again.
    2. If you go to a friends house, you can activate their console, download kit, play, then DELETE AND DEACTIVATE WHEN FINISHED.

Not all DLC allows this. I can't remember but one or more of Burnout Paradise, Warhawk, Wipeout only allows one activation, so yer fooked on both points above.

Not expecting you to [or care if you don't] believe me but this is straight from Sony Playstation site. I don't have a link and not that interested in finding one at the mo [busy]. Feel free to google it yourself.

Awesome, I'm off to wipe my account from my brothers PS3. Thanks for the info.

so you can get your 5 activations back if you deactivate on one of the 5 system

Again, the misconception is that you are limited to 5 downloads. You are not. You are limited to 5 activated systems.

If you deactivate one system, you may activate another. Your downloaded kit will not work on a deactivated system.

Yes, that is my understanding of it.

If you want "proof", purchase the cheapest "game" on PSN. Something like Linger in Shadows or the Aqua thingy for PS Eye.

    1. Downlaod it
    2. Install it
    3. Delete it
    4. R & R as many times as you want ON THAT SAME PS3.
