Not seeing right

For some months now I've been suffering from eye strain – I work on a computer all day. Not having had my eyes tested for three years I went along last week and got new reading glasses. The optician didn't see anything amiss and said my long-range sight was excellent. However, the strain is still there.

I had a full medical last week as well and everything was fine, except for raised blood pressure. Could this affect my sight? As I said, the optician didn't see anything wrong.

Should I go back to the optician and get a new test? Will I be charged for it?

You will be charged for it, afaik.
How long do you spend a day on the PC?
I spend 8+ hours of work and then go home and spend most of the evning on it.
I've been wearing glasses all my life and I had a lot of strain a few years ago (exactly what your describing) But my optition said there was nothing wrong.
In work we got upgraded to brand new flatscreens, top of the range, and I also bought one for home. I don't have any eye strain now at all, even if im staying up late! Its worth the investment.

P.S: Its my wrist thats the problem now, probably need to invest in a new mouse / keyboard!

Tallon, I'm on the Mac for about eight hours and a few more hours at home, like yourself. My Apple display gave up some months ago and I could only get a HP (Hewlard Packard) display as a replacement. Although it's got brightness/contrast controls, they don't work on the Mac. Maybe that's got something to do with it.

Thats exactly whats wrong, macs are much more brighter and colourful than a PC so the screen is very important! They are expensive though

when you say the strain is still there - do you mean a physical sensation? Did you mention to your optician?

[QUOTE=do you mean a physical sensation? Did you mention to your optician?[/QUOTE]

It seems to be a physical sensation. It takes a little bit of effort to focus properly on words on a page. Maybe it's just a case of adjusting the distance of the page/screen from my eyes to suit the new lenses.

I didn't mention this to the optician. I thought an eye test would reveal any abnormalities; she did say my general sight was perfect and that there were no problems.

I should probably give it a little more time just to get used to the glasses.

    Seems strange.

Being on a computer makes you shortsighted. People who are longsighted get reading glasses.

Go to a different optician. No point going back to same one. GP would be the next stop
