It's in Wicklow: Deer are like rabbits here. Not so long ago I was driving into Aughrim from the Aughavanna direction at night and had to go real slow to avoid hitting deer on the road.

If in any doubt, take a drive around yourself or better still park up and go for a walk either around dawn or early evening. Talk to a few people and ask them what it's like. As you can see, I'm further north, but I'm constantly seeing them in my garden.

To say the least,it wouldn't be advisable.

i know the area very well ,the hunting would be good if it was managed. but the two guys that have the stalking off the farmer are raping it.
also its more like 1,500 acres BTW.
who are you dealing with TN or PW as i would not buy a bike of them.
its a money making racket half of wicklow have there hunting licences on it.

In my limited experience, I have done some walking in the area, I though most of Aughavanna is Coilte lease... At least I have seen those 'Firearms in use' signs on the gates in.
I though when you left the forrest, you were in to National Park and Lugnaquilla on one side and the Wicklow way and Mucklagh on the other side.
Is there much hillside? I have only ever seen a few deer far far away and running...

the problem arises when some one is looking to make a short term buck.

usually some one new or some one with no regard for the animals in question.
or some one that has just taken up stalking and does not under stand whats involved gets ground.
the hcap is one of the worst things that has happened to deer in ireland every one that has done it has became a expert over nite.
guys that have managed ground for years have lost it to the quick buck men thankfully some of these have bit the dust mainly one waterford man.
    hopefully more to follow.
