    Hi

A few months ago, my PC running Vista ultimate starting with some weird behavior. Any window opened (explorer etc) would start to continuously jump across the screen.

I tried every anti-virus product on the market (well almost :P ) but could find nothing wrong. Could it be a hardware problem (Graphic Card)?

As I've 5 PC's around the house, I ignored it and moved onto my Mac more or less permanently as I just didn't have the time to try and fix it. Anyway, now I need it. Tonight I formatted and reverted to a clean copy of XP.

    It does the same thing...

Here's a quick vid (ignore BSG in the background :P )

    anyone seen this behavior before?

It wouldn't be something as simple as a dodgy keyboard would it? If you have another keyboard swap it and see if the problem persists

I've gone from a MS Wireless laser 5000 to a stock keyboard (I blame a glass of coke :P ) back to a new MS Wireless 5000 so unless all three are faulty I don't think it's that.

To be sure, I'll bring one from the office tomorrow and try again... running out of ideas here... :(

Bizarre. Well seeing as you've reinstalled windows and your keyboard is ok I'd look at drivers next. Try updating your graphics card drivers for a start.

It's running the standard windows VGA set at the moment, you can see how slow it's actually scrolling. I'll update to the real drivers tomorrow but I did this 10 times while on Vista (10 different versions ) and it made no difference...

I keep leaning toward a hardware issue, but it seems so targeted. For example, I can run any of the screen savers perfectly, any of the options windows (My Computer --> Properties/Manage for example) with no hassle. But if you open explorer, or any app (Word, IE/Firefox/Chrome etc), it goes berserk...

Sorry I forgot that you moved from Vista to XP and the problem persisted. You would more than likely have different drivers for the 2 operating systems so that rules that out.

It's looking more and more likely to be a weird hardware fault. Did your PC come with any diagnostic CD's? If not I would recommend downloading a copy of Hiren's Boot CD as it contains some diagnostic tools for hardware. Apparently it's available as a torrent but obviously I couldn't possibly comment on or condone such a thing.....:P
