Damn, beat me to it. ;)

165 MB for me. I can't restart just now so I won't install until tomorrow. So if it wipes out anyone's itunes library or something I'd appreciate the warning. :P
    What's included in this update:

    Upgrades Safari to version 4.0.2.
Improves the accuracy of full history search in Safari 4.
Resolves an issue in which certain resolutions might not appear in the Display pane in System Preferences.
Dragging an Aperture image into Automator now invokes an Aperture action instead of incorrectly invoking an iPhoto action.
Resolves an issue that could prevent importing of large photo and movie files from digital cameras.
Improves overall Bluetooth reliability with external devices, USB webcams and printers.
Addresses an issue that could cause extended startup times.
Improves iCal reliability with MobileMe Sync and CalDav.
Addresses data reliability issues with iDisk and MobileMe.
    Improves overall reliability with AFP.
Improves overall reliability with Managed Client.
Improves compatibility and reliability for joining AirPort networks.
    Improves Sync Service reliability.
Includes additional RAW image support for several third-party cameras.
Improves compatibility with some external USB hard drives.
    Includes latest security fixes.

I'm more sceptical about updates lately, so I'll let the early adopters do their thing.
If all goes well, I'll roll forward next week, habitually using the combo update.

Just out of the blue? Anytime this has happened to me, RAM was the culprit.

Ah only happened this once and I was farting around with the cables at the back and that so maybe I did something? Hopefully anyways.

On a side note is it worth upgrading 2.4GHz Core 2 MBP from 2 Gigs of Ram to 4???

I've been questioning whether to do the same as well. I had planned to upgrade to 4GB immediately after getting my MBP. But I'm finding the existing 2GB to be enough for now. I'll definitely upgrade eventually though.

I guess it depends if you need it. How many apps you run, etc. Install iStat pro and keep an eye on the RAM usage.

The update "Max OSX update" can't be installed

The installer encountered an unknown error that failed the install. Contact the Manufacturer for assistance.

    (restart)

Never had this problem before. I've restarted the machine (when prompted) and there appears to be no problem.

I have a time machine so I can fall back on that (hopefully) should any problem.

I'm not all that technical with this kind of thing.

    Model Name: iMac G5
    Model Identifier: PowerMac12,1
    Processor Name: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    Processor Speed: 1.9 GHz

And I'm currently working off Max OS X 10.5.7

    Hey, Profiler.

It might just a bad download. But just in case open up Disk Utility and make sure everything checks out, i.e. repair permissions and verify the disk.

Then try downloading again from here:

    http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Update

If you encounter the same problem again get the combo update. It's big (759MB) but often fixes little problems like this.

Hey Sad Professor, thanks for the quick reply.

The software update version (one that prompts by itself) was 165mb and the one you suggested here is 247mb so I'm giving that a try.

    Hopefully that will work!

    I'll let you know

    Thanks for the help!
