I'm not sure, but I don't think a locksmith would make a key for it (unless you're just getting a spare copied). I could well be wrong.
Another possibile solution would be to to a Honda dealers with your car registration cert (VIN), ID and cash.
While there, bend over and lube up while they more than likely Roger your Tom Collins.

Try Collerans (091-581857) and ask for Darragh.

You could also try Jeremy in Auto Electrical Concepts (087-1376173).

Your local Honda dealer is Monaghans. Normally if you ring the dealer with the chassis number they can get a pre cut key, but it can take a couple of days. A BMW key with a chip is about €130, and a Hyundai one is about the same.

Had to get a Hyundai one a couple of years ago (Monaghans is also the Hyundai dealer), and it cost a lot less to get it from the dealer in Mayo. Moral of the story is shop around and get a few prices!

In the case of the Hyundai, Monaghans wanted us to bring the car to them (car locked with no key). The Mayo dealer sent us a pre cut key, and Darragh Colleran coded it to the car.

The cutter downstairs in Corbett Court Shopping Centre cut a copy of a car key for me, not Honda mind.

It does have a chip, cause Civics have immobilisers since 96, unless it's a Jap import.

UK/Irish Civics of that era have immobilisers.

Main dealer can cut one from the chassis number (as long as the locks weren't changed), but it'll also need to be programmed. I got a Superlock key last year for a bit under 70 euro.

Phone the dealer and ask. Oh, and haggling on anything and everything works these days with dealers too!

It's not. It only started with the Civics with the EK model in late 95 (officially the 96 MY). My 1995 EG was stolen using a screwdriver.

You should come clean that you are from speedykey... no-one will mind! Put it in your sig.

Talkin' of Jap imports how do you know if it has a immobiliser or not?
Wife has a '99 yaris import and is afraid that she will lose the only key!

That'll be very cheap to get a copy made of if there is no immobiliser, ie 3 or 4 quid.

Usually a flashing light in the instrument light, with a key or lock symbol, indicates an immobiliser. If it's not there it most likely doesn't have it.

If it is a european Civic, then the blank (chipped) key is about €30-35 +VAT (unless it's a late '98 car registered in '00,it could happen...and then you are in trouble).
Your local locksmith would charge you approx. €15-22 to get it cut.
Our dealership charges 15 minute labour for coding a key.

Jap import Yaris's generally don't have immobilisers.

Maybe the OP has lost ALL the keys for the car?

Less than half from a main dealer... I have the invoice in front of me for €62.71

I tried a locksmith over in Tallaght who wanted €110 for the same thing.

hey sorry for the late reply to the thread . we left the car to the mechanic and he looked around galway and said he can find no-one who will code the car (i dont know if he done too much looking tbh ) . he says that they will probely need to put a new imobilser which will cost 1000e . Im gona have a go tomorrow and try to find someone around galway who will do it. So should i ring all the honda deals in connaught to get a copy of the key cut ? and then try and find someone else to get the key programed ? can the key be cut just from just the VIN code ?

the car is a 00 honda civic and its not a jap import .

    hope ye can help :)

Go to a Honda dealer and get a key cut from the VIN by them. When the key arrives they will program the immobiliser in the car for you. Ask for prices. Neither should be more than about €70 euro, and they may do the coding as part of the supply job but that's really up to them.

If you don't want to use the dealer in Galway I've heard good things about the ones in Ballina and Roscrea.

A Friend of mine lost all their keys to their polo. VW quoted over a grand for replacement. An auto locksmith went to the car cut and recoded 3 keys for €280. He's in dublin but there must be a similar service availble in galway. Losing keys is an expensive mistake.

My girlfriend has a 01 hatchback civic and only has one key, she went to a few locksmiths and none of them can copy it, they said the only way to get a copy is main dealer, So your prob better off ringing them about it.
