    Hello,

Just wondering if any of you guys use apple support (the paid for support).

As stated in my earlier thread, my Logic pro has died. I've ben trying to sort it out with the help of the internet and the very helpful Tracksmixstudio.

Unfortunately nothing has worked and I was wondering why Apple are not looking at all those crash reports I've been sending off.

It turns out that they will assist you if you pay a yearly fee.

Has anybody availed of this and is it worth my while?

    Thanks

    Logicless Rockshamrover.

    That sucks Mate..

TBH.. I'd rather do a Fresh Install of everything than pay any more money for something that is not my fault.

Whats a couple of more Hours in comparison to the days that you've spent already?

Cut your losses. They've had enough cash out of you.. & your priceless time.

Turn it around. Its a good excuse to do some Backing up & Summer Cleaning.

How long have you had Logic ? Isn't there a period of free support ? 90 days or something ?

A clean install is a good plan.

The other possibility is if you intended to upgrade to 9 you'd restart your free period of support ?

    I'm just riffin' here ...

    Thanks lads,

The problem is, silly person that I am, all my projects (the future of rock and roll) are still within Logic. I didn't bounce them. The other thing is I would have to reregister all of my third party plug ins and instruments.

I was thinking that I could just upgrade to 9 but had ruled it out thinking I would just be carrying over the old problems. If your hunch is right though Paul I could get free support on the new version. Interesting.

It would be brilliant if your suggestion was correct.

It it only happening on old projects?

Does it happen if you open up a new project & do everything from scratch?

    Hello,

Unfortunately nothing has worked and I was wondering why Apple are not looking at all those crash reports I've been sending off.

If it is those reports when a program crashes that say send to Apple, then Apple does not respond to isolated/specific instances.

    http://www.micromat.com/

    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html

These two programs are indispensable for mac maintenance and can
solve these weird issues. You should have one of them anyway. Directory maintenance issues alone can cause a multitude of problems.

    Have you repaired permissions ?

I think when people are talking about re installing they are specifically talking about Logic only not a complete hard disk reformat and install.

    Best of luck:)

    Hi Denis,

Thanks for the advise. Yes I have repaired permissions and have rebooted from disk to repair the startup disk. I've moved all of my third party plug ins into a different folder on my library.

I have downloaded all the latest drivers.

One of Trackmixstudios suggestions was to set up a new account on my Mac and see if Logic would run there. I did this and it runs perfectly. The only problem with that is I cant use or access my old projects or third party plugs.

I have to say this whole thing is a nightmare.

So is it possible to reload Logic from my discs and not lose my old projects?

I have been looking around the net and found similar instances to my own. In some cases people reloaded but still had the same problem.

    THanks again

    Hi ICN,

It happens as Logic is loading up at the very start. You can then open older projects or even start new ones but none of Logic's instruments or plug ins are available.

You can then go to preferences/audio and switch from my Duet as the device to Built in input, in coreaudio. This gives error code 28773, I can't find anything on that on the Logic support forum.

Strangely enough at this stage I can open an older project and all of the Apple stuff will be uncrossed.

If I try to do anything or make changes Logic crashes.

    THanks

Paul, as I say the future of rock and roll is at stake here:D

I would hate to lose the projects I've been working on for the last 18 months.

Maybe I should just do it.

Apple are saying I can have there support for ¢180.00 which is close to the cost of upgrading to Login 9.

    Decisions decisions.

Thanks for taking the time Paul.

you can definitely open old projects in the new logic.ive sent projects to people and they can open them fine, same should be the case for a fresh install.

the project isnt contained in logic but in the logic folder, copy them to your exhd and do a reinstall just incase they are wiped out youll still have a back up of them

    Yup.. Just like backing up.

Its the computer thats fcked. The files are grand.

Whatever you do, dont save the projects after you've opened them incase they get corrupted :(

    Terrible problem Mate.

Yeah.. I suppose getting Logic 9 might be a nice cherry at the end of all this.

You'll need 10.5 at least for that to work.. if you dont have it already.

I feel for you. 3 things.

1.You cant move your plugins to a different folder they have to be in Library/Audio/Plugins/Components.

    2. Trackmix suggestion is valid. The reason you cant access your 3rd party plugs is because you moved their folder. What happens when you try to open your old projects ?

    3. Go to User/****/Library/Preferences and delete

    com. logic.pro.cs
    com. logic.pro.plist

These are preference files which are rebuilt each time you open a program, they could be corrupted.

    finally

All your Logic song files should be on a separate HD. If not go get a FW drive and do this.

    best of luck.

    Hi Denis,

I moved all the third party stuff just in case these were causing a problem. That seems to be the point where Logic hangs. It gets as far as verifying the Apple AU plugins and stops at AU HIPASS.

I am able to open up my projects in the original account by selecting file open etc. All of the inputs are crossed out. I cannot open the old projects on the new account but Logic looks perfect there apart from this and the fact that all my third party stuff is asking to be registered.

On the old account, if I go with the internal sound device Apples plugs come up as uncrossed but Logic still crashes.

    I did delete these lads
    com. logic.pro.cs
    com. logic.pro.plist

I just completed a hardware scan, not the short one but the intensive one. It came up clear.

One other thing that's worth mentioning is I get this error message. Logic Pro has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers.

I don't have third party drivers.
I also don't have a firewire drive to store the projects on.

    Disaster or what.

Thanks again to you and the rest of the lads for your advise and support.

I still have a few options I suppose so it's not the end of the world.

You seem to be doing all the right things.

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32740

At this point I would uninstall Logic using the above. It will find any files with
logic in the title and give you the opportunity of deleting them.

Then reinstall Logic from your original disks.

On a separate issue, you should never use your internal system drive to record audio, you are asking for trouble. You should always use an external HD. Any good FW drive will do.

What are your Mac/System specs BTW

    Hi Denis,

    Thanks again.

I didn't know about not using my internal drive for recording:eek:
I only have one firewire port and I use that for my Duet. Is there any kind of adapter I can use to add more ports?

I was thinking of getting one of those Time Capsule things from Apple as the missus has all her Itunes stuff on this IMAC too.

I am using an Intel IMAC
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB of RAM.

There are numerous Firewire adapters out there. I dont use them as I have a second sata drive for audio. Perhaps others can chime in.

The issue is, when you are pulling audio off a drive it needs to be a separate unit, as to try and do this on the the same drive as your system will overtax that drive trying to stream audio aswell as trying to do all the other things related to your DAW.Use this drive for your samples aswell if you want. Kinda makes sense. Also you will fill up your system drive pretty quick recording audio on it.

I don't use logic, so sadly can't help..

but could you not copy the project files onto a USB stick, meet up with one of the other logic users and check if the files load onto their system.. If they do, then you know you are safe, and can do a complete format and reinstall on your system.. Might be the quickest and safest way to solve the problem.

    Hi Welease,

Interesting idea. I'd be worried though that what ever the problem is could be passed on to whoever. This could be Swine Flu for Logic:D

I'm still weighing up the options.

    A. Dump and reinstall. If it works great.
    B. Upgrade to 9 and see if that sorts it, I doubt it somehow.
    C. Sign up to Apple care and have them get me out of this.

Either way I still have to an external drive and possibly a splitter for my firewire port.

I think Time Capsule may be wireless so I want to check this out and see how well it would work with Logic.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is turning into a real soap opera.

    Hi again:)
Did you set up a new user account and try and open it?
Open it without audio then save as and then try and open the "saved as" file.
Is it just one project that won't open?
You previously said you could open logic with audio disabled. Can you then turn on built in audio?
If logic opens with audio disabled that narrows the problem down to either audio drivers or plugins.
Create a new folder on your desktop and call it "components temp".
Go to hd>library>audio>plugins>components and move the contents to the new temp folder.
Now try and open logic normally. If it opens there is a corrupt or incompatible plugin. Put them back into the components folder one by one, opening logic after each and you should be able to find the dodgy one.
I am running out of ideas here so hopefully this works.

Maybe upload the logic file to see if I can open it.

    Hi Trackmixstudio,

    How are things?

Still trying to sort this out.

I was able to open up Logic in the new account as you suggested and it looks perfect apart from not having access to my third party stuff or my projects.

In your suggestion above about moving third party plugs to a new folder. In the components folder there are a few sub folders such as HAL VST etc. Do I move all the third party stuff from each of these?

I moved everything bar the VST stuff.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭Rockshamrover

Oops, I got that slightly wrong, there are no sub folders within components and I previously moved out all the third party stuff and was still having the problem.

Logic hangs half way through loading up so it's not specific to a particular song.

How do I do the thing where you can attempt to open one of my classics?:D

    Thanks

    Rock.

    Guess what?

My Logic is back up and running again. I am so f**king happy I could upgrade to Logic 9 and buy a hard drive.

I found one little paragraph on Apple support and gave it a go. See below, you never know when it might come in handy.

Concerning the Rescan of your Plugs I just posted this answer in another thread:

Remove the following file from your User Library (not Main HD Library):
    User/Library/Caches/com.apple.audiounits.cache

Then boot Logic, it should scan all functional Plug Ins

I just want to say thanks a lot to all the guys on here who helped me out with this, Trackmix, Denis, Paul, ICN, Welease. This is a bit like an Oscar acceptance speech.

I don't smoke or do drugs or drink to excess but I now know what going cold turkey is like. This last week was so frustrating so thanks again for your support.

    Yeah.. A Diversion Sign! :D

6 of one & 1/2 a dozen of the other Mate..

I'd delayed it a little.. Had driving lessons / test.. Boy (11mths) was sick twice in the space of a couple of weeks (Cold & then a Stomach Bug).. And we had the builders in for a little while. What really fcked me up was that my Sons sleeping pattern has totally changed since & doesnt sleep really during the day anymore. Dog ate my homework. It was hard to find the time to get it finished tbh. Boo-Hoo.

Rupe has it.. Had a quick look over it.. but I think he's busy & I dont want to pressure him, especially after I took longer that I would have liked. I plan on giving him a Buzz on Monday & see where we're at.
