He should be. A great player for the future. He is consistent and will help Donegal to an Ulster title soon.

If not him Aidan O'Se if he starts performing

another 20 year old donnie shine from roscommon had 25 points in the championship, he hadn't as good a championship as murphy in fairness but he did score 9 of roscommons 11 points in the win over wexford, its not easy for a young player to play well in a team that hit rock bottom with its worst championship loss ever against mayo in castlebar but shine proved one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise forgettable campaign

Am I the only one who thinks Murphy only had a good and not a fantastic season?

While he played well in most games he got the majority of his points from frees (I know he won a fair few for himself) and had a tendency to drift out of games when the going got tough eg. after ~20 mins of the Galway game.

A great talent and a fine season for a young player but I'm not 100% sold on the greatest young player in 20 yrs argument

Kevmy, I think you picked up the argument wrong, Nobody said he was the best young player in 20 years. The point is he is probably the best young player this year as he is only 20 years old. ;)

It's between Aidan O'Shea and himself for the award I'd imagine depending on how Mayo get on.

He came back into it in the last 15/20 minutes as he drifted further out.

Brolly came out with that sh1te after the Derry game. I agree both Joyce and Gooch were better. Still for the of Donegal a lot will rest on his shoulder over the next few years.

Its a pointless arguement in fairness very different players all three and the game has changed an awfull lot in that time between Joyce and Murphy, one thing that would add credance to Brollys statement though is that both Joyce and Cooper came into far better teams than what Murphy did.

Aidan O' Shea will get it if he has a stormer against the Royals which i expect him too.
