The process is all done online, the details of which will be posted out to you when you accept your offer of a place in trinity. the link is somewhere in tcd.ie/accommodation . The application is a short essay about yourself where you wax lyrical about how great you are how you want to get involved with every society and student union and play lots of sport. Total nonsense if you ask me, however thats the way they do it and its best to take the app seriously.

Perhaps this should be a sticky. It comes up a lot around this time of year.

So am I to wait until tomorrow for the offer before doing anything for it or can I prepare something now?

    Apologies for the bump

Just another little question, when can i apply?!

Is it done sraight after accepting my offer or do i need to wait!?

    Cheers

you can apply once you've accepted.
But which room type would give me a better chance of being accepted? I thought a twin but my friend said that unless youhave someone to share with it's very unlikely that girls will get a twin room, cause most girls don't want to live with strangers...

In applying do you use your cao number or a student number trinity send to you?! Sorry if that's stupid, i'm confused!

And can payments only be made online?! It's just we have no credit card, only laser. That's if I get it.

    Thanks!

I'm entering my CAO number and Date of Birth right but it keeps not working!

Any clues when the system will be up and running?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

First chill out, its not first come first served.

You first should accept the offer from the CAO asap, when you do that, TCD get told that you exist and your details are uploaded onto the TCD student records system. Exactly how long this takes is a mystery but at the latest it will be 48 hours after the 1st round acceptance deadline.

At the moment TCD hasn't a clue who you are, since the CAO hasn't told them you have accepted the offer and since this is all old fashioned its not quick

Once that happens you will be able to access the system and make an application. While you wait simply think about or even draft the personal statement

    ...draft the personal statement

Any idea what they are looking for in the personal statement?

Yes, but we're not going to tell you. There have been umpteen threads on this topic, many of which are quite recent. The search box and the sticky at the top of the forum are your friends.

I've got everything down but labia dimensions; why would they need to know that?

So they know exactly how much suction to apply when sucking the flaps off you. For guys they take into account tongue length as well. This way the large labia ridden wimens can be located conviently next to the large tongued men!

15min walk from Trinity! You are having a laugh. Its more than 15mins on the bus. Its a 45min walk I used to do it every day. To Bolton St its about an hour walk.

Yeah, I'm a very fast walker and it still takes me over 10 minutes, close to 15 to get from the Stephen's Green Luas stop to the Hamilton building, and judging from the map it's well over double that distance, even as the crow flies.

So it's probably worthwhile getting a bike then if I'm staying in Trinity Halls, or does the Luas do the job ok?

The luas would do the job fine, it's just very busy in the mornings and maybe uncomfortable. It's only a minor thing though they're pretty frequent

Luas is great. You must remember that if you want to be on time for a nine o'clock lecture you must be on the Temple road at 8:20 at the latest

And be prepared to miss a couple of Luas trains due to over-crowding. Ballaly (3 stops before Milltown) is pretty much the last stop where you can expect to always be able to walk onto the first train that comes, if you're planning on being in college for 9 am. Early Luas is not fun :(

That is very true. I once had to let so many trams pass I got sick of waiting and took one out to Dundrum. Its probably worse now since then as there has been a lot of development out in Sandyford (The beacon etc.)

And how long roughly of a walk/bike ride is it? I've seen conflicting reports on this thread.

If I recall correctly its about a 50min walk... though I could be wrong its been a while. I've never cycled it but the general rule of thumb I believe in urban areas the cycle time is just over one third the walking time.
