Id say would just be as simple as ringing sky and them switching the channels on for you.

I have had channels updated no problem with the sky+ box in me front room that is not connected to a phoneline. So it should be fine i cant see why it would not.

Gonna get ESPN meself so im hoping its not haha.

    It's done via satelite.
Your card number is just added to the list attached for the permissions for the channel you want to watch .
The call centre then orders a sending of the updated permissions list.

This is done so often due to the number of people chopping and changing their subs all the time but can only be done in batches which is why they'll tell you it will be 2 to 5 hours or some such.
They do them so often that the change might happen straight away but in any case at the next scheduled tx.

Even though this has been done for decades now,I still think it's amazing technology.

Leave your box powered on by the way untill you can view the channel
Leave it on sky one or something.

They will send a signal as the lads have said but I have seen a few people complain on other sites that getting ESPN was taking a few days  and other people that connected a telephone line temporarily got the upgrade instantly and they got a £5 credit from Sky on their account.
