I've read it's crowded at times could anyone recommend a good time for when it would be less crowded,any time after 1pm would do me fine.

From 1:30 to 2:15 or so works well for me. Before 1:30 at lunchtime things are busy and after 2:30 they start taking away lanes for casual swims / youth groups etc.
