the photo is sound if you plug the camera in the printer and print but if the photo is saved on the PC and you print it from there it is a crap print you get vertical line's on it every 30 or so milimeters any know what we'd be doing wrong

Printer drivers maybe. try re-installing them and run a clean / test page

    Camera model,
    Printer model,
    Operating system on PC,
    Software used to print photo.

You'll need to give a little more detail to get some suggestions.

I'm guessing the printer, ink and paper are ok since the line isn't present when printing from the camera directly.

Have you previewed the shot on the PC before printing in a print preview function (if available)? What are your print settings, have you looked at these?

Also make sure you have the settings changed to photo quality, any less will give you the effect you have described and make sure you set the correct paper type also. The printer most likely uses photo settings as when a camera is plugged in but the settings will need to be done manually from desktop.

    Thanks for the additional info,

someone may have the same printer and be better able to advise.

If the shots look ok on the PC then you really need to look at the print settings.

Does sound like the print quality setting is too low when your printing, if you go into printer settings you can up the quality, also could try print a nozzel check, to see if it needs cleaning (done from same menu), a dirty head would give this missed lines look but at higher print quality setting might not be seen
