Passport Problem

Hey not sure if this is in the right place feel free to move...

I'm kicking myself at the minute because of my stupidity so no need to point it out again please. But if anyone can offer me any help/advice/info it'd be greatly appreciated.

I'm going away this Friday the 7th of August to Budapest. I have only just checked my passport now (was sure it expired next year) but apparently it expires on the 11th of August. So essentially my passport is valid for flying out but it won't be by the time I have to fly back. I have no flight booked back as I'm not sure where I'm going to end up but it will certainly be after the 11th. I was planning on coming back early September.

So I suppose I would have enough time to get a passport it's just I won't be home to get it. Could I possibly get someone to post it out somewhere? Will I be allowed to fly out on the 7th if they see how close it is to expiring? Could I take the risk that the passport people will overlook the date on the passport when coming back?

Argh very angry with myself right now. If anyone has any advice/knowledge on what's best to do please reply.

i had a similar problem last year. I went to the passport office with my old passport, my forms filled and stamped by a garda and a copy of my air tickets. Paid a 125 yo yo fee and got the passport in the same day. Just go as early in the morning as possible

I'd second that. You may have difficulty travelling TO Budapest on a passport which is about to expire as you would end up being out of the country without a valid passport. They may object at the airport in Ireland or on your arrival.

I'd try hunting around on the Irish govt website to see if there is a form you can print off first.

You have to go to the Garda station to get a passport form, speak with them and they will guide you through it and sign your form.

If you are near Dublin the passport office is in Molesworth Street. Not far off Grafton Street (I think!) and Kildare Street, where The Dail is

Cool I'll head down to the Garda station first thing and take it from there. Ugh so stupid...
