I've been getting increasingly frustrated with my grinder, so took some time tonight to tear it down and clean it out. It was incredible the amount of coffee grinds still in the grinder, and it has made a real noticable difference now that it's all reassembled. Previously I had it wound as tight as possible and wasn't entirely satisfied with the grind, now it's so fine it's clogging Ms. Silvia altogether. A definate positive result, but it was messy.

Some pictures to help paint the picture.

    good work!

seems like a hardy little grinder inside.

I was about to spring for a new grinder. It's not hard to take apart and clean down. It's so much better now that I don't need a new one. :) I'm happy.

    Cheers

Good for you.I recently picked up a 10 year old commercial grinder (Brasillia RR45) on adverts.ie for €100. I stripped it down and reckon it hadn't ever been cleaned. The smell of rancid coffee would almost make you retch.

It took me a whole day, but I chipped off the really rancid grinds, soaked everything in Puly caff overnight, ordered new burrs and a spring off espressoparts.co.uk (£20 total) and what do you know... it does a fantastic grind. Very satisfying to restore it to it's former glory.

When I dug out the specs for the machine, I found the motor was rated at 0.25 hp. I figure if it's rated in horsepower it's gonna last a long time!
