I need to clean some old tapestries (dust, grime and cigarettes). 3 are old chinese silk and two are large multi fabric made by my mum years ago. I value these highly and want to make shure that they come to no harm. I would have thought dry cleaning would do the job. I have been unable to find a specialist cleaner in Dublin.
    Any recomondations welcome.

Most dry cleaners won't touch speciality stuff, don't want the risk. I know the Oriental Rugs www.orientalrugs.ie in Dublin do a service, but whether that is in just wool rugs I don't know. They might be able to help your out wither with advice, or know of somewhere else that do cleaning.

Or otherwise try ringing the conservation part of the National Museum. Here's a link to conservation part of their website, and the textile part

    Hi ,
All rugs require regular maintenance and professional cleaning to maximise their life and durability.Chem-Dry offers a bespoke rug cleaning service which includes rug grooming to restore rug pile and a specialised rug cleaning plan. When purchasing a rug, be sure to note the origins of the rug and the fibre types. This information will prove valuable to your Chem-Dry rug cleaning technician, when they devise a individual rug cleaning plan to groom, perserve and restore your rug.:(;):pac:
