A lof of the earlier Mercedes cars were sold in LHD in Japan. Its probably the 85-92 series as it has the larger grille, although with the facelifted clear indicator lenses from the 92-95 versions. Its a 4 speed automatic 3 litre petrol estate. I like the square number plates.:D

    4Matic refers to 4-wheel drive:

Never seen this particular spec. of the W124 before. Mustn't have been ever sold here.

Didn't you know we're not allowed any luxuries here in communist Ireland? It would make a lovely pick-up though. A bit pricey, those Japs are getting a bit greedy lately considerings it would be crushed if it wasn't exported.

It's going for €6,000 or so (their is a way of converting the prices on that site to Euro's).

I'd rather keep it as an estate, use a lesser model as a pickup. ;)

Plus VRT, and that could be anything if they don't like the look of you on the day of if it's a full moon. They'd have a field day up in the VRT office with it, four wheel drive, leather seats and LHD it must be worth a fortune as a collectors item so we'll charge you another 6000. Thieving b@stards, i'm glad I don't live in Ireland anymore.

    Really, where are you now?

I do agree though, it's a disgrace the way they carry on in this country. If I lived in Canada, I'd import it there.

The w124 era 4-matics are iffy, complex drivetrain which is expensive to replace parts of/work on.

Very true....best to stay well away from the 4-matics...very expensive to fix.

I had a 94 200T..they are great cars........I would go for the diesel next time though...pref in silver with black leather.

Check out some beautiful models here....the guy that runs it is a member on a w124 forum (cant think of the site name off-hand)

4-matic was very popular in Switzerland, Austria and parts of Germany.

Had that exact car when I lived in Germany in that colour but without the 4-matic, got it second hand with a high mileage, we used it as a company car, was written off in an accident with 891,000km on it, same gearbox and engine from new! For the 4 1/2 years we had it it did about 150,00km pa, with no breakdowns, just the odd bits that gave up. Oil change every 20,000 km helped. Fabulous car.

Was that same petrol engined model? I know about few W124 examples exceeding 1 milion km, but they are Diesel engined.

It was the 3.0l petrol engine, 12 valve. Not unusual for this one to have such high mileage, met plenty of people who had done 500,000+ km on these.

Shame that Merc's now are rubbish.

The W124 was the last of the good reliable Merc's.

That is very true. The last proper E-class is the W124, but the same quality built in other range of Mercs you get in W201 (190) and in W140 (S-class). After middle '90 they decided that they will be making good money instead of making good cars.

^ That's the problem when accountants run car firms.
