Speed cameras

Just a quick question on static speed cameras. Are there any regulations about how far into the set speed zone that the camera must be?

I'm not sure if that makes sense, so to explain why I'm asking. I use the N2 regularly and recently a set part of it has been reduced from 100 KPH to 60KPH. Its because of a new set of lights at a junction. I have no problems with that.

About 75-100 meter into the 60KPH zone is a fixed camera. It was always there, so I don't even know if it has been re-set to the 60 KPH. Apart from the fact that its just in side the zone and gives people who don't use the road little to time adjust, I have a major problem with it.

I'm on a motorbike and I dread coming to this spot, its a nightmare trying to slow down with cars behind you who don't want to. I end up with cars either up my hole or now I started to just pull into the hard shoulder and let them pass at 60+.

I know this could be posted in a few forums, but I posted here in case someone is aware of any regulation about the distance past the start of a speed new zone for a static camera. It the mods feel that its suited elsewhere, feel free to move it.

Think I know where you mean, coming up to Kilshane Cross?

There used to be one in Lucan just after the end of the M4 inbound where the limit dropped (and inexplicably, still does) to 80km/h from 120km/h. It's difficult to maintain 80kmh (anyone know that rationale for not having that 120km/h HQDC or motorway?) on an 8-lane+median road anyway, let alone slow down to it in a shortish distance.

Yep that's the one. I have no problem with the limit and understand the reason why it was reduced, the difficultly is slowing down safely; when some muppet behind is not so inclined. With being on two wheels I'm alot more vulnerable.

I put alot of miles in on the bike and the last thing I want is to get points for trying to stay alive:eek:

Good question/thread. I hope you get an answer.
I too use that stretch of road at times and know exactly where you're coming from in relation to the distance the camera is from the spot where the speed limit reduces.
