Apple Store Belfast

I'm going to collegein dublin in sept. I called the apple store in belfast and i asked them about student prices.

I'm interested in a mac book pro and was told it's about 13% off which is what i can get already online from the emails i get from apple about the back to college deals. but one thing i can't get online is cheap apple care. The sales person in belfast told me that it's about 78% off apple care for a student.

Anyway, these discounts only apply to U.K. students i was told. Does anyone think they would turn a blind eye if i brought a letter of acceptance from an ROI university? Would they see i'm willing to buy there and then on the day and not care?

Also another question. I'm think of getting the basic mac book pro, 2.26 GHz, 2 RAM, and 160 GB but upgrading to 250 gb is only 40 euro more on the apple website with the student deal i get through emails. I'll only use the mac for music, college and writing a thesis and the likes, but should i take the extra 90 GB?

what is the difference between 4 gb of ram and 2 (apart from numerics), would i only notice it if i was running alot of stuff or heavy stuff on a mac?

    and finally
which is a better looking mac the white or the aluminium?:pac:

    Thanks

I don't have first hand experience of this but I remember people posting in other threads that they have toughened their stance recently and will no longer give student discounts to ROI students at all...

More space is always nice but TBH, you can buy a 320GB 5400RPM drive for around €60 these days and they are only getting cheaper. It is very easy to replace the hard drive at a later date yourself, so I'd save the €40 now and just buy a larger hard drive when/if needed down the line...

Several demanding applications (Photoshop is always a good example) need a lot of memory for best performance. Virtualization (running Windows or Linux variations, etc on top of Mac OS X) is also a big memory hog. 2GB isn't bad for most "normal" uses but I'd recommend 4GB if you can afford it, even over a hard drive update right now.

The aluminium one, no question :D. I bought a unibody MacBook 1st gen. pretty much as soon as they were unveiled - it's a thing of beauty :).

Apple stores don't upgrade Hard Drives, I'm pretty sure about that. they only sell standard spec machines.

13%? Thought the deal was currently 10% for colleges with apple on campus?

If you customize the base spec, I think they ship from somewhere in Holland or even China sometimes. I think the last one I ordered took about a week to reach me...

I don't know about that now, when I bought my MacBook I wanted a larger HD and it wasn't a problem :)

Bought in a Apple store in vegas
