I'm always looking for new music to listen to, and thought of doing this thread. I've seen this done on a few forums in the past (including forums on boards.ie) but not sure if its been done in Alt/Indie.

Fire up your ipod (or MP3 player of choice), stick it on random/shuffle, and do the following:
    1. List the first 5 tracks that come up (the most honest you are, the more fun it'll be!)
    2. List the first 5 recommendations for other Alt/Indie fans (even if you have to go through 20-30 tracks to find 5). Look for stuff that people may not be familiar with (but you like).

The lists can cross over obviously (if you have REALLY good taste in music). :)

This thread could dry up very quickly if it was limited to one post per person, so lets make it one post per person per day.....

    My first 5:

    1. Rent Day Blues (The Frames)
    2. Fading Out (The Golden Hour)
    3. Lemon Meringue (Poe)
    4. La Pour Ca (Nada Surf)
    5. Lightbulb Sun (Porcupine Tree)

    My first 5 recommendations:

    1. Fading Out (The Golden Hour)
    2. Lightbulb Sun (Porcupine Tree)
    3. Daisychains (Youth Group)
    4. Fall Behind Me (The Donnas)
    5. No One Really Wins (Copeland)

    Awesome thread.

Five randoms. Pardon the add-ons,felt they were neccessary, I've probably broken the rules.

1:The Clash-Tommy Gun (If you dont have Give 'Em Enough Rope and London Calling you're doing music wrong)

2:Rilo Kiley- We'll Never Sleep (God Knows We'll Try) (I used to listen to this band a lot more, but I lump them in with the other 'teenage years bands'. This album (Takeoffs and Landings) is a perfect indie-pop album, still)

3:Against Me!- Tonight We're Gonna Give It 35% (By far my favourite band, despite releasing two terrible albums in a row now their early material means the world to me. Fans of bands as diverse as The Gaslight Anthem and Refused will love Against Me!( and probably already do!)

4:Mr.Oizo- Bruce Willis Is Dead (He did so much more than a Levis ad. Ed Banger Records in general, bar Uffie, is fantastic)

5:Christy Moore- St. Patricks Dance In San Fernando (Everyone who listens to folk music should know Christy inside out. His more recent material, including covers as diverse as Moz and Dylan, is magic. The man carries so many stories.)

    Five choice-cuts:

1: Billy Bragg- The Saturday Boy (God I love this song, beautiful. 'She became a magic mystery to me, and we'd- sit together in double 'istory twice a week' Reminds me of somebody, think it reminds everyone of somebody *wipes tear*)

2: Au Revoir Simone/Phoenix- Sad Song From 1901 (Au Revoir Simone- Sad Song. Near perfect. Phoenix- 1901. Near perfect. Both together? THANK YOUU)

3:Cat Power- Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground (Was between this and her cover of The Auld Triangle!)

4: The National- Start A War (Beautiful, nuff said)

5: The Shangri Las- Give Us Your Blessing (kick ass 60s (amirite!?) pop band from the states everyone should listen to. You cant get Eddie Rockets delivered to your house, but you can play the Shangri Las really loud)

The Donnas - Don't Break Me Down (not a great recording, but I like this band - good to turn their stuff up loud...)
Pete Murray - Chance to Say Goodbye (Aussie singer with a knack of writing hooky folk/pop/rock)
Manic Street Preachers - You Love Us (easy to forget their great old stuff)
Blackfield - Blackfield (great song - I love anything Steve Wilson does)
Nada Surf - Inside of Love (4 albums on my ipod, so these guys are going to come up alot - one of my favourite Nada Surf songs)
