Kind of indirect conformation, but 1st years are registering that week, and seeing as they always register during freshers I am assuming that date is correct.

So is freshers week as amazing as it's always made out to be?

Nah. It's good, there's loads of stuff happening and the whole excitement of meeting new people and starting college is great, but it's not amazing.

Thanks guys, on a less sarcastic more serious note what kinda stuff goes on?

I know there's tours, registration and the like but what else is on offer?

Whatever you do, do not join 40 societies during freshers.
I must have joined about thirty and ended up taking part in 3 activities run by them.
Such a waste of guinness money.

There was a load of activities on last year like the iron stomach, toga party, traffic light disco, blah, blah, blah.
Go to as many of them as you can afford.
Get all the free food you can.
Go for a pint in doyles.

Freshers Week sucks. Make the most of it by taking all the free stuff you can.

But that's what I do! It's half the fun.. I tend to get very involved in societies though anyway.. And at least I don't drink so it doesn't waste alcohol money! :pac:

    How much do they charge to join 'em? When I was in RCSI all clubs/socs were free to join.. ;_;

I think the Phil and Hist were a fiver or so.......
But every fresher should join at least one of them because last year they accepted the membership cards as ID in the Pav. :pac:
I think the rest of the societies are around 2 or 3 euro.

Except Tennis, which is 10 euro ("we'll give you free lessons"). They then subsequently don't contact you for the entire year.

Sounds like a Ponzi Scheme, you didn't by any chance come across Bernard Madoff in Tennis?:D

Freshers' Week is absolutely great from freshers, but becomes less memorable each year after that, imo.

Its not too bad in First year.. getting to know the college, meeting loads of new people. Its not too great in subsequent years tho. The crap weather didnt really help last year either.

I loved freshers week last year. Wake up very hungover at 2pm, head into college, get some free food, scab all your drink from the societies, head out to some club and drunkenly meet a load of random people. Its class. I've only experienced it as a first year but i'd say it'll be ten times better this year.

I'm expecting opposite to be true, considering this year I'll actually know lots of people and will be seeing people I havn't seen in a while. Plus doing society stuff should be fun.

I thought it was better in second year, you know more people and it's less intimidating.

Nights out are a bit useless when you know no one.

but theyre the best craic when you go out knowing nobody and end up meeting and hanging out with a load of randomers. I kept seeing people around campus this year that i randomly went out with during freshers week.

Anyone here part of the sub-aqua society? Really want to join this. Also, any type of cycling/badminton/dancing/drama/trampolining societies about?

I'm an old wan returning to college (I'm 26) and wonder is freshers week hellish for the slightly older person. I'm obviously posting this on behalf on posters in the mature student/non-trad forum. ;)

Actually, in fairness, I was jet lagged to pices that week, so I really didn't appreciate being concious...

First and second year were deadly because in first it's the whole new to college experience for the first time and in second you'll know a lot more people but it'll still be in some ways a new experience ie. maybe there was that soceity you didn't join, seeing friends made in first year again since exams etc.

Third and fourth year are rubbish because at that stage you've seen it all before! One thing I will say is to make sure you get in there at least one of Mon, Tues or Wed. I find come Thurs and Fri things have always died down a significant bit.
