One thing which could affect how we see photographs is Colour Blindness

I recently came across this test whick seems quite comprehensive.

A Cal Check for your eyes.

I dunno, so far as I know those things have to be done using calibrated charts to be useful. As it turns out though I'm apparently daltonian free. Hurrah. I mean, if all else fails, you can always shoot B&W, right :D

    Took the test.
Here's the results. Now i've no excuses... :o

    Got everything there right, but I sometimes find this one hard to make out;

    Colorblind5.png

I'm surprised it wasn't included in the other test.

You'd also be surprised at how many men, both studying and teaching, suffer from colour blindness, in art college.

    Estimate of color vision deficiency's probability:3% :o

But not because I didn't see the colour correct - I didn't see the correct answer!:D

    Estimate of color vision deficiency's probability:0% :D

There was a guy a year ahead of me in college who was colour blind, and the rest of the class used to go to him if they wanted colour palettes that were a bit different :) And he could see camouflaged items very clearly. So if there's ever a boards photog paintball session I know who I'm with!

Lol, was this on the multiple selection/multiple-box questions? Instead of picking the nearest answer, I kept picking that there was none suitable because I was too lazy to read the question properly...whoops :)

Looking good apart from that though!

I think that it will be interesting to see if any of the regulars here do have some clour blindness. I wonder how it would change their perception as a photographer.

It affects about 7% of the male population, but only about .4% of felines.

I thought they were ALL mostly colour blind (red/green) ?

Exactly. Took me ages those questions. And in #26 or so I didn't see purple was on offer and picked blue for an answer...So pure laziness here as well.

Same as Oshead. But it did give me a fit of sneezing and now a bit of a headache. Feck! The computer's messing with my hayfever.

Interesting 0% deficiency - but I did have surgery for a detached retina last year and I found that test harder that on previous occasions. My night-vision isn't that great in my 'bad' eye anymore

This has set me thinking. I often take photos in monochrome in order to become aware of the structure underlying objects in the frame. I'm not colour blind, but often a very complex series of colours in a photo can be distracting and tiring.

    This is helpful:
    http://critiquewall.com/2007/12/10/blindness

    http://jfly.iam.u-tokyo.ac.jp/color/#select

It would be interesting to take photos that are especially pleasing to people who are colour blind and also to have them vibrant enough to be clear and accessible to those who can see a full palette of colours.

    This has set me thinking.
....jebus, is there anything that won't set you thinking ! :D:pac: (only kiddin Anouilh).

    Anyways, I'm 0%.

I'd imagine if I was a higher percentage, I would have to delete ALL my posts and comments on boards.ie & pix.ie, as they would be meaningless :pac:

That pic that Fajitas has, I kinda see an X !! :o or an alien or something ! :p

Oh. My 3% must be right...I see the number 56:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    It's the number 56 alright!

It's one of the test for the rarest forms of colour blindness. :)

I'm starting to wonder if all those beige/pink arguments I've had with my mother over the years might be my fault after all :( The only one I got wrong was #16, and I had some problems with that beigy (or not) one shown on the previous page here. It might also explain why my friends' "earth tone" eyeshadows always look pink to me - I've always assumed they're mad and have no taste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 762 ✭✭✭Buzz Lightyear

Passed with flying colours and the 56 as well.

It's nice to be considered normal :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 910 ✭✭✭tombull82

Passing with 0% also but I have to say that I can only barely make out the 56 and would have said it was just 2 barely pink squiggles until somebody said what it was.:(

    I can see the 56 plain as day - it's a triangle behind a purple grid :)

I found the same with the 56, very hard to see, was more visible when the angle of the laptop screen was changed
