Query about abusive phone calls

A friend of mine is getting abusive phone calls and have reported it to the guards. When they get one of these calls they record it and burn it onto cd to give to the guards.

My question is would that be a valid way of giving the cops evidence or do they usually get the message retrieved by your carrier so an expert witness can appear in court?

It is perfectly valid. In court the hearing will be based on oral evidence of the call with the CD being used as a contemporaneous record to veriy the oral evidence.
