Is there a way to upgrade to iphone 3.0 software, but keep all my app store apps and cydia apps and their settings. In other words without having to reinstall the whole lot again? Thanks.

Cydia apps will be lost, as far as I recall. However, if you do a backup of your phone and a restore, post 3.0 installation, your apps will be restored without having to re-install them.

yeah your apps from the app store should be there if you restore the iPhone after upgrade. Cydia apps will be lost as will Cydia.

nothing you can do about that.

Actually there is. If you install a program called AptBackup, it makes a list of the applications you currently have installed and the details are actually save in your iTunes Backup so all you have to do is restore your phone, install AptBackup and that will install all of your old Cydia apps.
