I have tried to record ESPN & ESPN america using my dvd recorder & my vcr but it will not record from skyplus because it is copy protected, however I can record ESPN america but not ESPN using my sky digibox.
Is anyone finding the same problem?
If this persists it will be my shortest subscription ever.

Cannot help you but I am thinking of getting ESPN as I already have the Sky HD pack and Sky Sports. How much extra is it monthly for ESPN pack as I cannot find cost anywhere? Would be interested also to see if anyone else has this problem as it would be a serious disadvantage.

It's £9 sterling extra per month for the Premier League games, not sure of Euro equivalent. I see ESPN HD was added to the list of HD channels within the Sky EPG yesterday. Here is a link to the page mentioning the £9 charge.

€12 if you have Sky Sports. €16 if you do not have Sky Sports.

€12 is reasonable. The only thing I can see different from what Setanta had for €20 is that they do not have the Saturday 3pm kickoffs ( which I rarely watch anyway ) and the Magners League ( I watch Leinster so will miss that ). I like the American sports programmes they have , the PGA tour is on Eurosport and I don't watch UFC. A major plus is the fact that their games will be shown in HD as opposed to the poor reception for Setanta games. Only concern as said earlier is the query of Sky+.

Setanta Ireland are doing the 3.00pm games according to their web site...............

Can I assume that no one else is encountering the same problem or is there anyone who is unable to record ESPN or ESPN america?

I have seen it mentioned over on Digitalspy. They must have the copy protection switched on a la Sky Box Office.

That means no recordings can be made on dvd recorder or on vcr and this is unaceptable as far as I'am concerned, these channels are not pay per view.

They can do whatever they like with their channel.

I remember sky sports had a had weekend last year (or the year before?) when they went FTV to rake in a few more customers, and they activated copy protect for that weekend as far as i can remember. Perhaps ESPN may do something similar?

I understand that. The 3 o'clock Saturday kickoffs are the only thing ESPN do NOT have which was previously offerered as part of the Setanta package pre all the huhah.

Energy, are you saying that Sky+ is working on ESPN. The thing you are not able to do is record on to a dvd recorder / vcr?

Australian Rugby League, Eircom League, Boxing, Horse Racing

Yeah true, but I don't follow any of those. Might possibly watch some Eircom matches but can see enough of them on other stations. Maybe if the mighty Longford Town get back into the top division I might be tempted :).

Overall Setanta will now be more expensive than ESPN. Considering which sports I watch the most not much of a choice to decide which one I will be subscribing to.

I agree. ESPN is the more attractive especially as ESPN America is being kept on full time.

yes that is what I was pointing out, but I am now able to record on dvd problem seems to have been rectified.
