I know in the UK a list is available on-line for "approved" locations, does such a list exist here in Ireland, specifically for Galway and surrounding area??

not exactly. You need to contact your registry office and ask them for the forms. it lists in there what conditions a location must have in order to get approval (such as wheelchair accessible, open to the public etc). Each wedding is approved individually - ie each couple need to get approval for their wedding. If a hotel or venue has been approved for a wedding already, then it is fairly safe to assume it will be approved again (provided you use the same room etc). If the registrar is familiar with the venue they may approve it there and then, or they may wish to call out and and see it themselves. but the main thing is there is no approved list, as each ceremony gets its own approval on a case by case basis. First step is to contact registry and get the list of conditions the place needs to meet. Even if it hasn't been approved before, don't let this daunt you - its really easy to arrange it. We were the first to marry in our venue and it was really straight forward. The registry office staff are really helpful and will give you any guidance you need.

    best of luck!
