    Hi guys,

Ive had an ACER ASPIRE laptop for about 2 years now. I bought it from Tesco's. The laptop worked perfect up till recently until I had to buy another charger. About 1 month after the replacement charger I had to buy another! So Im on my third charger now that is not working either. I have now worked out that its not the charger this time but something else. When I plug the charger in it doesnt charge, not even the battery light comes on which normally does if the laptops recieving power. The two previous chargers failed in the same way. Both were perfect to start with but after awhile you would have to move the tip of the charger around the hub, to get an angle that the laptop would charge on (sometimes I had to push it into the hub more and less etc). Can anyone tell me whats wrong with it?

I'm going to guess the socket has broken connection with the board.

Can you test the chargers with a multi-meter?

Take the chargers into your local friendly PC shop and ask them to test them, if they work it's your laptop socket.

Anyone know how much a laptop socket would cost? How hard would it be to do it myself?

What the model number for the Aspire. Some require a new DC board rather than a DC socket.

Liam in www.limerickcomputer.com replace them for 100 euro, it will cost mos of that for someone just to open a laptop, the cost of the socket is very cheap.

If you are able to get at the motherboard and you have reasonable soldering/ desoldering skills you should be able to diy

The aspire 5050 requires a new DC board. The replacement sockets advertised on ebay are not the correct part. I've had trouble finding the correct part. Give Acer spare parts a ring in the north. They stock the part required. No soldering skills required.
